When I found out part of our class would be to choose an outside piece of literature and use what we have learned in class to discuss it in a journal, I immediately did not know what to do. There were so many works I wanted to choose, how could I only choose one? That’s when I realized there was a connection between all of the works I wanted to choose: they were children’s books that had been turned into Broadway musicals.
After narrowing it down to five stories, I presented my proposal to my professor before sending it off for approval. In the end it was decided that I would examine those five stories in their original book form, the hit movie based off of the book, and the musical version of the story for a total of fifteen works examined. The final paper ended up being 24 pages, so it is the title and abstract for my Honors Poster Presentation instead.
I plan on adding to this work with a Breakthrough Adventure sponsored by the Honors College to actually go to New York and see some of these shows, as well as the other shows that the Great White Way has deemed “kid-friendly.” Coincidentally, all of those shows are either based off of a children’s story or movie.
