Longwood Journey

In August of 2014, I began my college career at Longwood University and declared a major in Kinesiology with a concentration in Physical Education. My first few months at Longwood were a struggle to say the least because I was terrified of the transition to college. Finally, I opened up and started making friends and joining organizations. During my freshman year I joined Club Football, Club Baseball, Longwood Ambassadors, Honors Student Association, Alpha Lambda Delta, Theta Chi Fraternity, PHETE First, and SGA. I had embraced what it meant to be a Lancer. My success also carried over into the classroom, I was able to make Dean’s List both semesters of my freshman year. However, my first year did not come without some setbacks. During 2014-15, I lost some people who were near and dear to my heart. I lost my grandfather, my favorite teacher from high school, and a fellow student who lived on my hall, Riley Cole.

Going into my sophomore year I was ready to transition from just a normal college student to a citizen leader. I was elected President of Alpha Lambda Delta, Vice President of PHETE First, and as a Senator on SGA. My sophomore year was also when I learned that I needed to learn how to say, “No.” Quickly, I realized that I had become overly involved and had to cut some organizations out of my life.
