In Sophomore Seminar, we did many things reflecting on our time at Longwood as far as that point. I remember creating professional documents, analyzing scientific papers, but most importantly writing two papers about something of our choice. It did not take me long to determine what topic I wanted to write on. I have been interested in the field of dentistry since junior year of high school and wanted to explore the effects of fluoride on the body.
Through this literature review I was able to put my passion into research and study something I loved. This was the first literature review I wrote in college which was slightly challenging for me as I was unsure of how to write one. Although I struggled with writing this literature review, I was extremely interested in the topic which pushed me to do my best. Writing a literature review allowed me to research other papers and gain insight into others scientists minds and connect with them. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this literature review and now prefer writing literature reviews over other styles of papers.
This literature review overall allowed me to write in a context I had never originally known, yet gave me much knowledge and helped me become a well-rounded biologist.
