Reflection

The plant experiment conducted in Biology 120-Integrating Biology, was one of the first projects I conducted in college. Biology 120 was a class based on the overall subjects in Biology, allowing us to choose which path we wanted to take in our major. When looking at Biology, I think of two different paths, the medical path and the conservation/environmental path. Our labs showed these two different paths of Biology allowing us to figure out what we were interested in which has ultimately allowed me to become a well rounded biologist.

We were all given seeds and told to think of an experiment on how we could grow these seeds and what was most effective. We decided to do an experiment based on temperature. We looked at how long it took for the seeds to sprout and measured the length of the roots. We found that high heat and room temperature took the same amount of time, but the cold temperature took very long.

This experiment helped me understand a side of biology I was not completely interested in when I came to college. Through this, I still decided I was not completely interested in the conservation, ecology, environmental side of biology. It was a simple, yet interesting project that helped me understand the best way to grow plants. This concept appeals to the conservation side of biology.
