In the research done in Biology 251-Introduction to Ecology and Evolution, my partners and I were able to study species richness of phytoplankton in a pond close the the university. Biology 251 was about the ecology and evolution side of Biology. This class was exciting me as it introduced me into the small parts of Biology I was not really interested in, but still wanted to learn more about.

My project partners and I decided to look into a pond and a gravel path near the university. When collecting an looking at our data I became more interested in the other side of Biology I had not originally thought about being interested in. Through our project, we found that these organisms survive better in the sunlight. I believe this helps provide and understanding for ecology as we can help certain things grow by providing them more sunlight.
