Service to our community is a key aspect of citizen leadership, and as such is an important part of Honors. Through Honors, I have helped clean up trash around the town of Farmville and have assisted with trail maintenance at Holliday Lake State Park. I also contributed to a sports equipment fund sponsored by the Environmental Club for the local YMCA. My favorite volunteering opportunity I have participated in was being a mentor at the Honors Retreat the past two years for incoming freshman. It is rewarding to help a fellow Honors student acclimate to college life and build relationships within the Honors community. I am proud to say that I will be a mentor for the Honors retreat this coming fall as well. Helping our community is an important and rewarding responsibility.
