Conclusion

My experience as a student in this Active Citizenship class has given me more confidence about my writing and speaking ability. On the first day of class, we had a class discussion talking about the ways a person can be an active citizen. I really did not have much written down on my paper other than voting and community service. Now, I definitely understand that being an active citizen is more than just voting or doing community service. An active citizen is someone who always helps others in need, are aware of current events, is educated and much more. One requirement in our class is to participate in class discussions. I consider myself to have an introvert personality, so this idea of speaking during class discussion was a challenge for me. However, as time went by I began to participate more openly because our class discussions were about issues we are faced with in our society today. Looking back through my class writing projects, I can see a huge difference between the writing that I composed before taking this class and what I consider good writing now. I am truly grateful that I was able to take this active citizenship writing class because it will be a guide for my writing in the future. Next semester, I plan to use all of the rhetorical strategies, skills and knowledge gained in this course as a reference to go by when writing and analyzing papers, and speaking with colleagues in the future.
