During this semester, I had 3 free credits so I was able to take any course that interested me. I have always love psychology and personally I strive to learn as much as I can in every subject. I have always been fascinated by psychology, so I took this opportunity to take a course on it, and loved every second of it. This course is packed with interesting and very useful information, and Dr. Ritzert is an amazing professor, which made the course that much more enjoyable. I believe that everybody should have at least a basic understanding of human psychology, because understanding why people think and act the way they do is incredibly useful no matter what occupation one may end up in.
One unit I found particularly interesting was the unit we had on social identity. Social identity is a very rapidly growing concept, and one’s social identity has a major impact on how they are viewed and treated in society. One assignment I had in class was to evaluate my own social identities and reflect on how they might effect how I am viewed in society, and doing this assignment taught me a great deal about myself and how these factors effect how people think and act towards me. This relates perfectly back to psychology, and even more importantly to me, helped me understand why people think the way they do. Attached is this completed assignment.
