The last major assignment for the course was our Formal Report. The task for this document was to take on the role of a consulting company who has been commissioned to analyze three websites from a particular industry. My group was the Consumer Analysis Corportation, who was commissioned by the Terrapin Vending Corporation to analyze three websites with successful online marketplaces. We chose the online marketplaces created by eBay, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace and analyzed them based on the criteria of visual appeal, content, and user-friendliness. This assignment was linked to course outcome number three, which was to conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents. The research we conducted consisted of questions we formed based on our three criteria for analyzing the websites, which we sent out to all Longwood students, to see if how we viewed the strengths and weaknesses of each of the websites matched the viewpoint of a broader audience. We presented our findings to the class in the form of a fifteen-minute presentation. It was required to use some form of media during this presentation; therefore, my group chose to use a PowerPoint presentation. This is linked with course outcome number 5, which was to practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools). In all, this project helped me tap into analytical skills I did not know I possessed and taught me how to effectively present findings from my research.
