Correspondence

The first major assignment we were asked to complete for this course was to create Correspondence Letters, which included a Bad News Letter and a Persuasive Letter. These types of professional documents are important as one will need to write letters, memos, and emails in the workplace. The task for creating the Bad News Letter was to deliver bad news in a way that was productive to keep the good will of your customers or coworkers. The task for the Persuasive Letter was to ask the recipient of your letter to do something that benefits you and your company. These tasks are connected to multiple course outcomes. The course outcome I’d like to highlight is course outcome number 2, which is to create professional documents that use plain English. It was expected that these documents utilize the Eight C’s of professional writing, which means the information must be clear, concise, concrete and specific, courteous, coherent, constructive, and correct. In this way, there is no ambiguity or misunderstandings when others read your letter as you have presented the information clearly without any jargon, you are polite in addressing your audience, and the document looks professional as you do not have any egregious spelling or grammatical errors. The toughest part of this requirement for me was making sure my information was complete while also making sure that I was being concise to keep the document to around one page. With that being said, this project was my favorite overall because it was fun but challenging to create these letters.
