Honors Classroom Management System Issues

Classroom System Management Issues was a course that showed me how important it is for a teacher to put a lot of effort into defining their values and establishing the type of classroom they want to have. For this class I had to read a chapter from the textbook each week and make flashcards for important terms covered in class. The professor really emphasized discussion and making sure that she answered any questions we had about establishing our presence as a teacher and creating our future classroom. The course challenged my thinking in terms of developing my education philosophy and establishing the structure of my classroom, looking at my values and ideas about rules.

The class really focused on group work and class discussion. I enjoyed working in a group on assignments and classwork as it was nice getting to know some of the other students and share ideas about the best way to manage a classroom. These discussions often showed me good ways to set up my future classroom, like making sure to go over the rules of the classroom thoroughly and set up the desks of the students in a manner that allows for ease of movement and discussion. This class really showed me unique ideas in setting up classroom rules, how to approach reprimanding a student, and how to best structure a classroom in terms of desks and classroom equipment.

The artifact I chose for this class is a poster I had to make concerning an issue facing schools systems and teachers. This issue I chose to look at was the rising number of student absences in schools and how teachers can motivate students to come to class each day as the teacher plays a large factor in creating a comfortable and enjoyable classroom environment. This poster challenged me to think not only about to the issue of student absenteeism and how to create solutions for the problem, but to also think creatively at how to grab the attention of those who might see the flyer and show the issue through a picture. This was a fun assignment as I got to look at an issue that interested me and use my creativity to create an eye-catching poster.
