Friday, March 16

The highlight of our Friday morning today was an exciting walk to campus to play at “The Beach” (a.k.a. the volleyball courts between Stubbs Hall and the student union.) Our full-day students have visited the beach several times with Miss Woods in the afternoon, so we were excited to share this special place with our morning program friends!

On our walk to campus, the children commented on the trees and flowers along the path. We saw lots of yellow daffodils! The children recalled their color experiment with Mrs. Smith from a few weeks ago where they placed daffodils in dyed water and watched as the daffodils changed color. We also noticed that there are several trees that are beginning to bloom with flowers.

While at the beach, the children enjoyed playing in the sand. We also tried climbing some of the trees that line that lawn. I pointed out to the children about how the bark on the trees were different from each other. We noticed that the crepe myrtle’s trunk was smooth whereas some of the other trees had bark of a rougher texture.

We also had lots of fun riding the swings together! I asked the children to describe how it felt to ride on the swing and here are some of their responses:

  • “It’s tickly! My tummy is tickly! It feels kind of tickly when I stick my tongue out!” -Gwen
  • “It feels funny. It feels funny when I stick my tongue out!” -Elliana
  • “I’m flying like a bird. I’m flying like an eagle!” -Matthew
  • “Fly in the air! I’m swinging higher!” -Isaiah
  • “I’m flying! It’s going high!” -Lane
  • “Make it go higher! I want to go high!” -Beau

Have a wonderful weekend!
