Throughout my four years at Longwood University, there are a number of classes that have been highly beneficial to my liberal studies major and children’s literature minor. The majority of the classes listed are English classes, with a few education classes as well. I have always had a passion for reading and writing, so that is why I decided to pursue a minor in children’s literature. It was wonderful to be able to combine my love for children with reading and writing! These classes were some of my favorite classes that I’ve taken at Longwood, and they really pushed me to think critically about children’s books and young adult novels. This minor can also help me in the future if I decide to work at an elementary school, or if I decide to go to graduate school for children’s literature. The remaining English classes that I took were writing in the elementary classroom, grammar theory and practice, advanced writing seminar, and English writing and research. These classes were also very beneficial to me, pushing me to become a stronger writer. I thoroughly enjoyed these classes and will continue to use the writing skills that I gained in my future career someday. Lastly, my education classes, integrated theatre, and project success all helped me in the aspect of my Liberal studies major. They gave me classroom experience, and taught me how to be a leader in whatever job I pursue. In conclusion, all of these courses were very important and beneficial to my major and minor, and I will continue to use what I’ve learned from these classes in my future career one day!
