History of Rock
Dr. Karnatz
Fall 2018

In History of Rock we discussed the most prominent rock bands of the 70s and 80s such as Led Zepplin, The Beatles, The Eagles, and Cream.  However, we also discussed and analyzed the influence of different genres such as folk, jazz, and rhythm and blues.  In addition, we also discussed how the sensory of sound had an influence over emotion, due to what it may have represented.  For example, in Sam Cooke’s “Change is going to come” the formalization due to the orchestra compelled  the audience that his message was sophisticated and had a greater purpose then making money.  His message eventually became one of the anthem’s of the civil rights movement.

History of Rock has taught me that music can often reflect the events and culture of a society.  For example, the increase in psychedelic music in the seventies alludes to the increase in the hippie movement during and after the Vietnam war.  I decided to use my Interview Paper as my artifact because it encompasses the discussion of rock music and its influence over certain fashions and trends.  In addition, it discusses how their are always a wide variety of genres, however every individual has a different taste in sound that fits their life and culture.
