Historical Inquiry 1
Dr. Isaac
Fall 2018
Historical Inquiry one was a challenging honors class that demanded critical thinking and persistency. Every class we fit in a lecture, reading discussion, and then class discussion connecting the lecture, reading and any questions we had about the material. Dr. Isaac’s class is not like any history class I had ever taken. It was not about knowing certain Greco-Roman facts or being able to recall the different dates of battles. It was more about being able to recognize our own present day bias, and trying to decipher the lifestyle and environment of Europe from the Homeric Age to the Renaissance.
The artifact I have decided to include, was the final paper I wrote for this course. I decided to include it because with every assignment in this class I believe my work was getting stronger, and I was coming steps closer to the main idea of the course that Dr. Isaac was trying to emphasize. In my paper “Transition of Intellect” I examine how the Middle ages was the catalyst for Humanism in the Renaissance, and how humanism modified the relationship between intellectual philosophy and religion.
