Honors Proofs and Number Theory

Proofs and Number Theory helped me focus on writing in the field of Mathematics and practice logic skills used in higher level mathematics. Proofs was challenging, yet so helpful in the long run, because it forces you to leave old habits behind and create organized work. As math students, we are always told to show all our work, and often this leads to a page with scattered notes when problems becomes multi-stepped. Hence, Proofs provided structure to help me conquer these multi-step logic problems and mature my approach towards solving difficult problems, especially in the courses to follow.
I believe that taking Proofs will serve me well in the classroom. I think that adopting an organized way to present different problems is so important, so that students stay engaged, understand the routine of class, and develop skills in organizing thoughts and their work. Students needs to organize their thoughts and work in a way they can relate to, especially when they are learning new material. In my opinion, one of the best ways for teachers to gauge how well their students are comprehending the material is by having students explain their reasoning through speaking or writing. Hence, if the student has been given the opportunity to practice the material independently and organize it, they may be more likely to recall it in the future.
