Personal Statement

I chose the law enforcement career path because I believe that serving and protecting others is one of the more noble paths in life. I am currently a senior at Longwood University. I plan to graduate from Longwood with my bachelor’s degree in May 2020. I chose a major in criminal justice and a minor in sociology. I am passionate about my education and strive to make Dean’s list every semester. I am a member of Longwood’s criminal justice honors society, Alpha Phi Sigma.  I have volunteered at Farmville’s Immigration Detention Center, where I learned more about the correctional wing of the criminal justice system. I interned at Longwood University’s Police Department (LUPD). This internship allowed me to see how a law enforcement agency operates on a day-to-day basis. One of the reasons I chose law enforcement over other professions is because of my strong moral compass. I am a devout Christian and am blessed to say that Christ has always been the biggest influence in my life. Through the teachings of Christ I have developed a strong moral compass. My goal in life is to lead others through the example of Christ. My family has also played a major role in shaping me into the honest man I am today. I come from a history of law enforcement officers and armed service members. My family has always encouraged me through all my endeavors and I have them to thank for where I am today.  It is from my parents that I have been able to develop a strong work ethic, a respectful manner, and good interpersonal skills. In addition to striving to better myself intellectually, spiritually, and socially, I also strive to better myself physically. Personal fitness is a passion of mine. I believe I chose this hobby because it allows me not only to work hard for a healthy lifestyle, but I often find myself helping people who are unfamiliar with weightlifting. This hobby also allows me to be in a positive, healthy environment. The culmination of my past experiences have shaped me into what I think will be a successful law enforcement officer. I wish to not only help others, but be an example for others to go by. I chose this because at the end of the day I would feel satisfied in the work I have put in.
