COMM 101 – Public Speaking

  • This course focused on properly delivering a message to a group of people, using public speaking skills. This is a prerequisite course for all other Communication Studies courses.

COMM 141 – Introduction to Media Writing

  • This course focused on writing within media and drafting different types of news stories. News stories varied from features, to news releases, to biographies.

COMM 200 – Introduction to Communication Studies

  • This course focused on preliminary Communication Studies knowledge, such as a brief introduction into theories, interpersonal communication, and public relations, and mass media.

COMM 210 – Media and Society

  • This course focused on the introduction to media within today’s society. Different medias were analyzed and best related to different communication theories.

COMM 280 – Fundamentals of Public Relations

  • This course focused on the core curriculum of public relations. This course included a major campaigning project to open students to using public relations in a professional setting.

COMM 320 – Communication in a Diverse Society

  • This course focused on the importance and key role of diversity in today’s society and how to best communicate with those around you. This course used several different readings to efficiently portray helpful ways to positively share differences with one another.

COMM 340 – Visual Communication

  • This elective course focused on how visuals are used to communicate a message. Students observed advertisements and other crucial ways images and colors are used to communicate.

COMM 350 – Persuasion Theory

  • This course focused on educating students on ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade an audience. A variety of papers and speeches were assigned to help students demonstrate these skills.

COMM 410 – Digital and Social Media Technology

  • This course focused on using social media to communicate a series of blog posts to the public. Hootsuite was an acquired skill from this course.

COMM 354 – Public Relations Writing

  • This course focused on pieces that are common to write within public relations. News releases, media pitches, social media posts,  and brochures were written in this course.

COMM 375 – Public Relations Research

  • This course focused on the different ways to complete research in public relations. Content analysis, focus groups, and surveys were completed in this course.

COMM 360 – Contemporary Practices in Communication Studies

  • This course focused on the ways to best become a professional in the Communication Studies field. This course influenced students to think deeply about their work view vs. their life view.

COMM 460 – Communication Research

  • This course concluded the Communication Studies major with a final research project completed throughout the entirety of the semester. This project entailed a literature review, methods section, results, discussion, and conclusion.
