For my rhetorical analysis I decided to look at a YouTube video by a group called NowThis World. By reviewing this particular format/genre, I was able to get an interesting perspective into both the U.S. prison system and the rhetorical strategies applied. I feel the first, third, and fifth course outcomes are highlighted in this particular assignment because using a video for your genre is a wonderful way to get pathos across. With a video there are more options for images to display pathos, and the audience is able to hear vocal inflictions that would otherwise be missed if they were reading an essay, for instance. Also, participating in active citizenship means finding creative and relatable ways to relay important information in today’s society, and I feel like the video has taught me the importance of that as well as the effectiveness of it.
