When I first signed up for this course with Dr. Justin Ellis, I had no idea how it would impact my views, morals, and daily actions. This course provided students with maximal resources on how to better our environment, even if it is just one step at a time. There were many different, and might I add, intriguing readings, discussions, videos, and assignments for us to express any ideas freely. Throughout the semester each student honed in on a specific behavior change that they want to see within their “community”. My behavior change was choosing biking as a main form of transportation on college campuses. From this, I researched literature reviews, case studies, websites, and more. Further on throughout the semester I interviewed a campus biking expert from Virginia Commonwealth University, Sera Erickson. This interview combined with my research allowed me to begin scripting my final podcast notes. The final podcast was required for each student to complete for their “final exam grade”. Even though we each only focused on one single behavior, we learned about everyone else’s research and findings in class as well. I truly think that this was the highlight of the class. I have changed certain behaviors of mine according to some of the research my fellow classmates did. This allows me to feel better about my community, myself, and the beautiful. environment we live in.
I am attaching a link to my final podcast, “Going Green Means Less Gasoline”. I hope you all enjoy listening! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZVq8pun5N7PrLjf6bSBrQTJ8b_87j1f3/view?usp=sharing
