In this class I learned a couple of things. One of the things I learned while taking this class, is how to navigate my way around SPSS well enough to where I could feel somewhat confident in myself to possibly collect and record my own data if I were to do anything regarding stats in a future job. Or if I ever wanted to collect and record data for my own personal reasons. Even though I don’t know everything there is to know about SPSS, I still feel as though I could put on my resume that I am able to use it to get statistics from the data.
I also learned in this class how to navigate RStudio. Similarly to SPSS, I feel s though if I were to use this program sometime in the future , whether for a job or for personal reasons, I feel as though I am comfortable enough to navigate through it. It also helps that RStudio easily saves your work and that its free to use, unlike SPSS. There are also tons of videos on how to do different stats related things on RStudio on the internet.
This matters in a larger context because as previously stated, I could use what I now know from taking this class, and possibly use it to get a job in the future. I could even put on my resume that I have some knowledge in using SPSS and RStudio.
In all honesty, I have no idea how I will actually use what I have learned in this class in the future. Even though I said I could use in my future job, I doubt I will get a job that a lot to do with stats and data analysis. Primarily because these things don’t really interest me.
See as though I am a criminal justice major and am looking at going into law enforcement, for the most part I feel as though I won’t be using a lot of stats and data collection. Unless for a specific purpose, such as finding ways to help raise the public’s view on the police.
