While I was searching through the internet, I came across an interesting news article. The Article is, “Poll: States with Walkouts See More Support for Rasing Teachers’ Pay,” written by Peter Olsen-Phillips. According to a poll, states, where school walkouts have been occurring, are seeing more support for raising teacher’s salaries. This is also linked to the support of school choice. Along with the growth in support for higher salaries, there is more support for charter schools as well. As a future teacher, this is something that peaks my interest. Teacher pay and charter schools are both subjects that tend to be slightly controversial in the education community.

When it comes to the salary, some people say that teachers should get paid so much more while others say they earn enough considering that they are just with children all day. When I was in high school, I ran into some of my teachers while they were at their second job, because they weren’t getting paid enough just teaching. People don’t realize that teachers are responsible for more than just making sure a child can recite their ABC’S, but making sure they are able to function in the real world when they are on their own.

Teachers from across the state of North Carolina march and protest outside the State Capitol building in Raleigh, on May, 16 2018.
