World Language Perspectives

Course: Spanish 211 Intermediate Integrated Language and Culture (Fall 2020)

I took Spanish 211 in the 2020 Fall Semester. Learning new languages has always been more challenging for me, but I felt that I learned more about both the language and culture. This course gave me the opportunity to build on the foundational aspects of the language I learned in Spanish 111.

My favorite project from this course was our movie analysis. We each picked a film to watch that was completely in Spanish regarding a certain issue. The film I watched touched on immigration and the struggles families face when moving from another country to America. I felt that the film was not only informative, but challenging. Watching a film in a language different than your own causes you to pay closer attention to details of the film such as the tone of voice and emotions of the actors. I felt that having to look at a film from this different perspective allowed me to find appreciation for the language and other artistic aspects of the film.
