Longwood’s mission is to be an institution of higher learning dedicated to the development of citizen leaders.  As such we need to monitor our students engagement and determine how these patterns can assist with increasing retention.

According to the strategic plan, there are specific ways we can monitor progress:

  • Student Progress to Graduation
  • Consensus on General Education, Implementation, and Assessment
  • Overall Attendance at University Events (Performances, Games, Exhibits, Conferences, Lectures, etc.)

Through the use of the Lancer Card (Longwood ID card), and various card readers on and off campus, we can collect data that can be used for a variety of functions. We have a very robust program with a lot of possibilities. These are just a few areas where the card data can be used to fill a business need or address student success.   Some of the areas being discussed are:

  • Event/Program Assessment
  • Identifying “no shows”
  • Retention and Student Success
  • Tracking Mandatory Attendance
  • Loyalty and Rewards Programs
