Changing Statistics Projects to Better Relate to Students

Presented by Dr. Sharon Emerson-Stonnell

As a General Education course, Math 171 requires students to perform a project.  In the past students have often viewed this project as just another assignment.  While the project is designed to reinforce skills learned in class, the students often do not see the relevance of the project but view it as just another assignment.  This presentation discussed the work that was done to better define the project and grading rubric to help students see the relevance, connection to course work.  In the process, the hope was that the quality of student work would also improve.
