Analysis of the Quantitative Reasoning and Literacy Assessment at Longwood University as an Indicator for Success in Math 164 and Math 171
Presented by Leigh Lunsford, Phillip Poplin and David Shoenthal
Whether at the course, program or institutional level, student assessment is expected and necessary for planning and improving student success. Unfortunately, assessment at multiple levels can potentially lead to testing and survey fatigue for students and burdensome processes for instructor implementation. The Department of Math & Computer Science faculty recognized these concerns from involvement in institutional level assessment of quantitative reasoning (SCHEV core competency) and utilization of course assessments for identifying and providing interventions for at-risk students in Math 164 (Precalculus) and Math 171 (Statistical Decision Making). In this presentation, results are shared on the research and analysis of the Quantitative Reasoning and Literacy Assessment (QRLA) instrument as a predictor of success in Math 164 (Precalculus) and Math 171 (Statistical Decision Making) as well as next steps.
