The Lancer Card: Full of New Possibilities
Presented by Christina Sampier (Division of Administration and Finance, Lancer Card Center)
Part of Longwood’s mission is to increase student retention. There are studies that link student class attendance to their academic performance and graduation rate. Tracking student attendance can help identify students who may be in danger of underperforming academically. In addition, these attendance records support the Institution’s compliance with federal Financial Aid requirements and audits. To assist with this process, the Lancer Card Center began installing attendance readers in various classrooms around campus and providing reports to the faculty per class period. In addition, administrative and academic support services needed a way to track attendance at various events around campus and collect data to help with their assessment reports and program planning. The Lancer Card Center has various readers that can be used at events on and off campus to track this data. This has become a very popular program and continues to grow. Information on how to request a card reader, as well as the types of card readers available, can be found on our website at www.longwood.edu/lancercard.
