In the spring, I took the Honors section of Education 245: Human Growth and Development, one of my major requirements, with Dr. Dorothy Cosby. This class was very enjoyable, both because it was within my area of interest and also because of the small class size, which gave way to a very open and accepting learning environment.
Unique to other EDUC245 sections, Dr. Cosby gave us an extra Inquiry Based Project, in which we demonstrated our content knowledge by creating our own scenarios and applying the course content to analyze the scenario. I highly enjoyed this project because it was creative and effective in gauging our reciprocation of the course, rather than just taking a quiz on paper and pen.
My favorite thing about this class was Dr. Cosby’s belief that quiz grades did not reflect a student’s success or knowledge; she preferred different methods of assessment (such as projects or in-class group activities) – which I very much appreciated; I even learned some classroom assessment methods to use one day in my future classroom.
