Over the Winter 2020 intersession, I took ISCI 361: Protecting Life on Earth with Dr. Sujan Henkanaththegedara. This class was an enlightening exploration of the natural world and conservation biology.
We examined various biological concepts: evolution, species, ecology, biodiversity. From there, we were scaffolded through various discussion modules to ultimately compose our own case studies. All of our assignments led up to a final research project as well as writing a general audience paper.
This has by far been one of my favorite courses I’ve taken at Longwood. I wouldn’t typically call myself someone who is scientifically-inclined; actually, science courses tend to be the ones I struggle with the most. I enjoyed the opportunities for independent exploration that I had in this class that allowed me to personalize my learning experience and truly get what I wanted from this class.
