One of the most ambitious assignments of this course was a research paper involving the techniques of writing within one’s major. Interested in our discussion about discourse communities, I established the two discourse communities of literature and rhetoric under the English department. Then, I researched the relationship between literature and rhetoric and discovered that the two communities had differentiated styles of writing. This paper was particularly interesting to me because I was previously unaware of the noticeable differences between these subgroups of the English department.
