Goal 2: Writing and Research (ENGL 150)
Out of all my courses for the Fall 2015 semester, this one was by far the most challenging. I previously believed that my writing skills were up to the college level and that this class would simply be a review. That belief shortly diminished after my professor told me that I was missing the entire point in my first paper. Rather than write about the techniques that I utilize while writing, I narrated my writing experience. I remember my professor telling me, “You’re thinking too much like an English major.” I was over-analyzing my own writing, much like how I analyze literature. This taught me that not all forms of academic writing are the same, nor is there a singular “correct” method of writing. I also learned that revision and editing is essential to the writing process.
