Overview
Bio 324 was Genetics. In addition to regular genetics lectures and lab, myself and three other honors students spent about an hour each week outside of class working on a semester-long project. Through this project, we hoped to create a bacteria that could successfully identify metals in water with genetic engineering.
Reflection
I did not enjoy genetics as much as I expected. I was rather overwhelmed with the amount of class material dealing with sub-cellular mechanisms. I also struggled with the honors portion of the course. However, I did gain a much better understanding of the building blocks of life.
Artifact
Attached is a picture of the e. coli we were engineering. The green one has been modified with green florescent protein (that glows when exposed to metal) while the other has not.
