Sociological Images discusses Dr. Pepper’s new diet drink for men. It’s not for women. Get it?

I have learned in my women’s gender studies class that through many advertisements women are discriminated against. I saw this commercial a few weeks ago and as soon as I saw it, I directly thought about my class and how it discriminates women. A drink that is very popular and then all of a sudden it only has 10 calories and women cannot drink it. Aren’t women usually the ones that want the fewer calories in their diet? This commercial is a prime example of how advertisements look down upon women.
This discrimination in advertisement happens to women in many ways by making women look child-like or being symbolized as an object. It is everywhere, not only on television but in magazines, internet, and movies. This Dr. Pepper advertisement is a step back from what women have been fighting for all this time after the many steps forward women have taken. I never noticed it as much until I took this class it happens more than what people realized.
