Professional Self
- My purpose to work is to be able to support myself and not rely on my parents, to learn the importance of customer service, and to make myself more humble and learn the importance of money.
- Many things motivate me but my top 3 are my parents, boyfriend, and having my own money that I can spend.
- My community service experience in Costa Rica made me feel fulfilled because I was able to help others in need, and help their community in general. My current job that I work at has made me feel fulfilled because ive learned many simple things like respect, patience and customer service. And lastly doing community service at a food bank made me feel fulfilled
- I used to work at Hollister, 3 things I enjoyed were making more money, trying something new, and the area I worked in. 3 things I did not enjoy were the people I worked with (everyone was very rude), the management (she was also rude and wrote me up when I called out for my uncle passing way) and they never taught me certain things, and the environment; you could tell the other girls who worked with were very mean girl and not welcoming, and they played their music way too loud.
- 3 hard skills I posses are my writing abilities, creating plans, and …. 3 soft skills I posses are empathy, patience, and problem solving.
- If someone were to describe what I was good at they would saying being honest because I am not the type of person to lie, to save your feelings, even if it hurts them I will be honest. And I believe this also makes me a trustworthy person. Another thing I think they would say im good at is being up-front, this kinda ties into my honesty but again I’m going to say whats on my mind, and if you do something rude I will confront you about it, and my friends really like this because I tend to stick up for them. Lastly I think they would say I’m good at problem solving, because when there an issue I always look for a solution and how to make it better.
Communication
- A time where I had to use my communication skills was recently, in having to talk to my roommate about boundaries. She had done somethings to me and my suite mates, like taking our food, wearing our clothes and jewelry without asking. It took good communication skills to be able to address the situation, we didn’t want to come off super mean but we wanted to make it clear that we were uncomfortable with what she was doing. It was definitely difficult bringing up the topic to her, due to the fact that it was just overall uncomfortable. But in the end it showed me that I had the competency communication because I was able to address my concerns with her and get the problem somewhat fixed.
Critical Thinking
- A time where I had to use critical thinking was when I was in high school, my friends wanted me to go out but I had a lot of work due the upcoming week that I wanted to get ahead on. I came between the decision of going and having fun but possibly falling behind, or having FOMO and being judged for wanting to stay in.
Teamwork
- A time I had to have teamwork was again with my current job, when people would call out and leave us short staffed. This would mean on busy nights like Thursday – Saturday, me and the host would have to work together to make sure the servers weren’t stressed, that tables were clean, and that people weren’t waiting to long at the front.
Professionalism
- At my current job I tend to work with a bunch of high schoolers which means on weekends then tend to call out sick. So a time where I had to show professionalism was when I picked up multiple of their shifts, even though I didn’t want to or I had worked the morning before. But I can’t completely blame them because I used to do the same thing, but over time I learned the importance of accountability and showing up when needed.
4. My resume and cover letter represents how I want my future employers to see me as a person. And shows my previous volunteer and work opportunities. For self-presentation it shows how i’m dedicated to my work, and how past experiences have shaped my passion for the education career. Throughout my cover letter I self-promoted, I emphasized my strengths in customer service and how I’m able to communicate and work well with others. I also talked about my volunteer experience with children, and how that would be beneficial to me if I got the position. For exemplification I wanted to make myself seem very dedicated to the position by highlighting my work and background in community service and go into depth about what I did and learned from it. What I didn’t do was make myself seem incapable, I only said good things that would keep them interested in highering me, avoiding saying anything negative that would turn them away .
5. One area that stress can come from an elementary job is the work load and time. Managing a large class, planning lessons, grading, and meeting the curriculum standards are all factors that can lead to lots of stress being a teacher. The second one is the emotional aspect, dealing with students who have behavioral issues, angry parents, and handling issues among students are all factors that can also lead to stress. The third one is lack of support/resources this is a stress factor because teachers tend to lack support from administration, they don’t have enough classroom materials and end up spending their own money on things. These issues dont just stay at school they come home with the teacher too. The two models of stress, the Differential Exposure Model and the Differential Vulnerability Model. For the first one a first year teacher, or a teacher who works at a low income school can face more challenges in the classroom, or not as much support from the administration. Which inevitably leads to more job related stressors, and turns into emotional distress. For the second model 2 teachers one from a wealthy area with support and one from a poor area with no support can be experiencing the same stressors like (heavy workload) but the teacher with a stronger support system, and having the ability to do their own thing in the class room. This teacher is more likely to be less distressed.
