MATH 304- Mathematics History

This course taught me about the contributions that different historical civilizations and mathematicians made to modern mathematical principles. I found this to be very interesting and I enjoyed learning about how historical civilizations both used and understood the mathematical concepts. The importance of mathematics has steadily increased throughout history and learning about the part that math played in different cultures was one of the most intriguing aspects of this course. This course has allowed me to see mathematics through a different perspective of being a field of study that can truly grow over time and continuously develop. I am grateful that I now understand this, because it will help me in future math courses.

The artifact pictured below shows a paper I wrote that focuses on solving a mathematical geometry problem by using an ancient Chinese math principle. For this assignment I was tasked with making it clear to the reader what the question was asking, explaining in English how I solved the problem, and showing the different mathematical rules I used to solve the problem with mathematical symbols. This paper helped me to improve my ability to explain mathematical ideas in a way that someone who is less experienced in mathematics can readily understand.
