EDUC 245- Human Growth as Function of Social, Political, and Economic Institutions

This course focused on the development of children during infancy and their early years of life. We also reviewed the development of children prior to birth. While learning about development, we discussed different factors that can affect children’s maturation, the stages of development, and the many different developmental theorists and their ideas. The information I learned during this course will be very helpful later in life when I have my own children and am curious what they should be doing to be on pace with typical development. Also, I will be much more comfortable working with younger children because I will know more about their developmental phase and the typical behaviors of children in different phases.

The artifact below was the second portion of a project we completed where we were tasked with watching a movie that contained the experiences of a younger child and first writing a two page analysis of the movie which explained the ways we saw the child develop throughout the movie. Next, I wrote a one page comparison of the parenting styles of the child’s parents and my own. Finally, I wrote a two page review of the movie from the perspective of a developmental theorist named Erik Erikson. In the review I explained how the ways that the child developed during the movie coincided with the theories of Erik Erikson.
