Below are multiple of my volunteering experiences that have helped me express my values!
The experiences that I most value most are when I do volunteer work, my favorite volunteering experience that I’ve had since is when I went on a trip to Camden, New Jersey:
I went to Camden, New Jersey as a volunteer to get to reach out and help the community. I used my communication skills to talk with group leaders and peers, applied team work and leadership skills in cleaning up and making safe parks and school yards, applied active listening skills and asked educated questions to the speakers about their area of expertise. Ever since then I have been volunteering around my area.
Another volunteering expeirence that I find close to my heart is Kappa Delta’s Teddy Bear Run:
I am apart of Kappa Delta Sorority and one of our philanthropies is the Children’s Hospital at VCU. Kappa Delta nationally as a whole has donated a wing to this hospital to help children in need. My chapter goes each November to what we call a “Teddy Bear Run” which is where we get to meet the children who we are helping and get to know them. This is one of our many great charity events we do but this one is the most hands on.
Another volunteer experience that is important in Kappa Delta and which is also very important to me is Trick or Treating with the Girl Scouts of the USA.
One of our philanthropies is the Girls Scouts of the USA. The day before Halloween Girl Scouts from Fuqua School come to learn about Halloween safety tips as well as make crafts and trick or treat. Giving back to our community is one of my favorite things to do and seeing the impact our chapter has on these children makes me want to become even more involved in the community.
Another experience that is important to Kappa Delta is our highway clean up:
During the highway clean up our chapter picks up trash along our highway in Farmville, Virginia. This has helped strengthen my communication skills with the Farmville community as well as in my chapter.
