A popular tv show series that has made an impact on today’s society is Keeping Up with the Kardashians. This show has been around for numerous seasons and caused many Americans, mostly female, to become influenced to do things and change their lifestyles. The show has caused people to get facial and bodily enhancements, spend money on expensive clothing and accessories, and act certain ways, as portrayed by characters on the show.

Chapter 12

Quick cutting is defined as transitioning from scene to scene by just switching immediately to the next scene without any sort of transition. Very fast and messes with the viewers’ mind. In the case of this commercial by Emirates Airlines, the scene changes are occurring numerous times and have no time for a transition.

Music

Music helps to convey ideas, help set a scene, and add emphasis to a message. In this 2018 Super Bowl commercial featuring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr, the song being played is almost entirely the purpose of the ad. The commercial would not make any sense if there were no music being played.

Chapter 11

In chapter 11, shallow depth of field is explained how a photo is focused on one object towards the front of the camera and everything in the background is out of focus and blurred. In this photograph of me in my pilot uniform, shallow depth is focused on me with the Richmond Int’l Airport terminal in the unfocused background. Shallow depth is usually used to force the viewer’s eye to focus on the clear portion of the photo then followed by viewing the remainder of the photo.

Chapter 10

In chapter 10, we learned about editorial comics. This one I chose represents an editorial comic created around the time of the 2016 Presidential election. It depicts Clinton, Sanders, and Warren in a slightly humorous and demeaning way. This comic also portrays how the author and likely those against these politicians feel about them. It picks fun at Democrats and the three as potentially being unfit and unwanted as the next President.

Chapter 9

In Chapter 9, different types of charts were discussed. One focused on within this post is a pie chart. This below pie chart represents a few ways that this form of an infographic relays information visually to the reader/viewer. This specific chart shows a break down of the most flown airlines/air carriers within the United States. It also color codes them and provides percentages to better demonstrate the significant or subtle differences between the subject matter. Image result for airline pie chart

In this picture, the use of white space focuses around how the bear has what appears to be another bear within it, with another bear within that one, finished by a possible little girl figure. White space uses your imagination to create the full picture by only filling space with dark colors and allowing the white areas to complete the picture and allow you to understand the message. This one portrays the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Chapter 6

In this advertisement, PETA posted a very controversial advertisement about becoming vegetarian; however, it displays an obese individual and makes the viewer believe that becoming vegetarian will make you lose weight. It also calls obese people whales and full of blubber. This deteriorates the reputation of PETA and also puts down individuals who fit in the overweight and obese category; regardless of whether their eating habits caused it or not.

Stereotypes in advertising have been happening for decades. From cigarettes to alcohol, and even perfume. In this advertisement, Quaker’s Life cereal used a racial difference in the type of flavors. The cereal color seemed to match that of the persons’ race. I can see how this caused lots of controversy amongst the issue of racism.

Chapter 3

Images consist of different codes that help a viewer understand signs. The analogic code is applied when you can associate a meaning from an image and compare that image to another image.

This image below depicts what appears to be set of pink lips, however, it is actually a book from a lowered angle while open. In return, this makes your mind think you are looking at a large pair of lips, but it is just a book with red pages.
