Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13
A. Leisure education is used with virtually every RT client. Using the idea of increasing friction towards bad habits and decreasing friction toward good ones, explain how you might use this concept in the facilitation of RT services with a client from your mentor’s agency.
When looking at my mentor’s agency and thinking about the idea of increasing friction towards bad habits and decreasing friction towards good ones I think back to the cycling program that I attended last week. If the program was to be run under normal circumstances (i.e. no global pandemic occurring) athlete’s goals would be taken at the beginning of every practice if there is one specifically for that practice and not a reoccurring goal. This idea that Clear (2018) talks about with increasing friction towards bad habits and decreasing it towards good can be used within this program by encouraging athlete’s to keep moving the entire time or make it a habit to give it their all to reach their goals during the program.
B. Consider your own work habits. How might you use the two-minute rule to stop procrastinating in your work?
When thinking about my work habits and specifically about them during this summer internship I believe that there are some ways that I could use the two-minute rule to help stop procrastinating my work. This could be instead of saying “read the chapters for book club” I could make the habit “open to _ chapter.” This two-minute rule could help with the procrastination by having the first chapter that is supposed to be read for book club that week already open. Another way I could establish this rule would be instead of “I am going to take a little break (that turns into two hours or more)” I could make it “10 minute phone break.” By establishing within those two minutes the habit that I want to accomplish, I believe it will really help me in working on my procrastination of my work.
