Kyla’s Fun Fact!
Each year in Buñol, Valencia there is a festival held on the last Wednesday of August called La Tomatina, where tomatoes are thrown in the streets for a huge tomato fight!
La Tomatina began in August of 1945 after a participants’ big head came off at a Giants and Big-Heads figures parade, causing him to become angry. In his anger, he began hitting everything in sight. Being that there was a fruit stand near by, people began throwing tomatoes into the crowd. In the following year, a group of boys threw tomatoes in remembrance of this occasion, thus beginning the tradition.
