Valencia’s racing heritage goes back a long way. To the Romans. In those days chariots satisfied the need for speed in the circo romano. Today, 250-horsepower MotoGP motorcycles costing over $2 million dollars each thrill spectators at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Wow–one motorcycle for $2 million? I want one of those! Cool! ¡Qué guay! This track is also known as Circuit de Valencia, or Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo. It’s just outside the city of Valencia. We’ll go right by there on our way from Madrid to Valencia. 120,000 people can attend races there. Formula One teams use this track as a test track, because of the mild temperatures in winter. The track hosts the MotoGP Valencian Community Grand Prix, and other famous races have taken place there, like the FIA GT Championship, the World Touring Car Championship, and the European Le Mans Series. So who was Ricardo Tormo? Spanish two-time world champion Grand Prix motorcycle racer; he died in 1998. I got all this exciting info from Wikipedia (of course).
