I agree and disagree with Fielder’s belief that people have one dominant leadership style and cannot change styles. On one level I agree with this because people’s personalities, what they are good at, their weaknesses, amongst other things all determine a person’s leadership style. No matter how much a person grows they are always going to have an area where they are more dominant especially involving leadership styles. Fielder states “Leaders should not change their styles. They should change the context of their job.” On the other hand, people are always changing their personalities and behavior and if leadership style reflects those two things, then I believe that leadership styles are ever-changing.

I think that time is an important situational factor to consider in selecting a leadership style for the situation. This is because situations that need leaders are timely. If a situation has to do with workplace conflict the leader needs to handle this promptly so that the employees find a solution to their conflict with help.

The Contingency Leadership Theory that I think is the best is the Path-Goal Leadership Model. This is because this model is used to select leadership styles to maximize both performance and job satisfaction. I believe this is best because this motivates the followers to achieve personal and organizational goals. It is beneficial to both the leader and the followers which causes a well-flowing environment.

The Contingency Leadership Theory I would plan to use is the Path goal Leadership Model/ This is because I am high people and task orientated which means I care about my employees and the tasks that need to be completed. This goes hand in hand with the Path-Goal Model because I want to motivate my followers to achieve their personal and organizational goals.
