Leadership Aspirations
Being a leader is not a linear process; therefore, there is always room for improvement. I am continuously striving to seek ways in which I can improve my leadership capabilities for not only myself, but for those I may serve as a leader to. Below are some ways in which I would like to continue to improve my leadership based on learning throughout my SOWK 412 course…
Team- Oriented
*ie; Path-Goal leadership in which a leader’s behaviors can [positively] influence and uplift their followers as they work to achieve different goals.
Confident as a Leader and Decision Maker
Servant Leader in the field of Social Work
Lastly, this Youtube video highlights a candidate from the November 2nd, 2021 Virginia governors election; Princess Blanding from the Liberation Party (Independent Party). Within this course, we were tasked to complete an assignment in which we chose a candidate from the election. I chose to write my paper on Blanding. Prior to the assignment, I knew little to nothing about her; however, during the course of the assignment, I learned a lot about Princess in terms of her advocacy, community connection, involvement in education, policy work, and leadership style which resonated with me and how I would like to see myself on my leadership journey. She is an outspoken leader and uses many principles of transformative leadership, which she uses to attempt to adopt change against the status quo.
