Travel Experience

Professor Magill

“Live your life by a compass not a clock.” – Stephen Covey. For as long as I can remember I have always traveled and gone on vacations with my parents during our free time. I have visited a total of eighteen states throughout my lifetime. One of my all time favorite places to visit with my family and relatives is Mackinac Island which is located in Michigan. In Mackinac Island you can do many different things such as bike riding or hiking to Arch Rock, visiting the Grand Hotel and eating delicious food.

In addition to my travel experiences I will be writing a review about Mackinac Island and what it is like to visit there and the fun activities that are in store. I traveled there in the summer of 2021. To physically get over to the island you have to board a ferry which you take from the shore of Mackinaw City. The city is a very touristy place and has a lot of shops to look in. Once you have gotten on the ferry with your luggage you travel across Lake Michigan which is crystal clear and absolutely stunning. The boat ride takes about 25 minutes until you arrive at the island.

Mackinac island is best known for being car free; their form of  transportation around the island is arrival and departure by boat, horse drawn carriages, bicycles and walking. They are also well known for the historic Fort Mackinac and Michigan State park which is where the Arch Rock, mentioned earlier is located. They have many boutiques and shops to purchase souvenirs at as well as fine dining. The most popular dessert item is their world famous fudge which I personally love!

Furthermore there are also so many other beautiful sites to see. Especially the view of lake Michigan that surrounds the island. The grand hotel is also a gorgeous place to walk and admire or even stay the night in. The Grand Hotel is a historic preservation. You are also able to stay in small bread and breakfasts located throughout the island as well which is what my family and I did. I found it to be very cool. Pretty much each place there is historic and has a story to tell which is what makes it so unique and fun to visit!

In conclusion I would visit this beautiful place over and over again. I definitely recommend going there if you love nature, history and the outdoors. There are many family friendly events that take place there and you should be prepared for a lot of walking around the island. Overall I would rate this place a ten out ten to spend time at and travel to whether you live locally and visit for a day or want to take a lengthy vacation either way is perfect for both aspects. I hope to go back in the near future because I had such a wonderful time.
