Professional Self

  1. My purpose to work includes a few reasons. One being to protect, serve, and educate the citizens of my community. Also to make a change within the community and strive to show the citizens that law enforcement officers are there to help. Lastly, to continue to develop and grow myself individually and professionally.
  2. There are many things that motivate me to work. Some of these being financial goals and stability. Family is a big part of my motivation because I want to be a role model and provide for them. My professional calling is also something that motivates me because I feel that the profession that I want to purse is more than just something I want to do but rather something I am called to do.
  3. I have been grateful to have many jobs and experiences that have made me feel fulfilled. One of the jobs I have had that has made me fulfilled is being a Lifeguard because I know that I am there to make peoples experience better with them knowing there’s someone their watching to protect them. Also, I have volunteered for an organization called Rock-solid which builds playsets for children with cancer and seeing their smile and happiness is fulfilling. I also conducted a research experiment on Briery Creek Lake that focused on improving bass populations and doing something good for a thing that I enjoy made me feel fulfilled.
  4. Three work and volunteer experiences that I enjoyed was being a Lifeguard, interning at a police department and volunteering for Ducks unlimited. Somethings I didn’t enjoy was working for different places that were not somewhere I wanted to work but needed to work there in order to meet financial needs.
  5. Some soft skills I have are communication, teamwork, and problem solving. Hard skills that I possess are technical certifications like welding, being proficient in Excel, and having my boater’s license.
  6. Things people think I’m good at is being mechanically inclined. Solving problems by thinking outside of the box and finding different alternatives. Also making good impressions on new people that I meet.
  7. Something I have done to show I have competency in critical thinking skills would be the research I did on Briery creek. One way I showed this was by presenting the findings and research to people and being able to analyze the data we collected and being able to express and communicate those findings in ways that people could understand. I have also showed that I have competency in professionalism. One way I expressed professionalism is when I participated in an internship at a police department over the summer. I was always early to my shifts, I dressed accordingly, showed the instructors I was interested and engaged in the activities they offered. I also have competency in communication. My strongest form of communication in face to face, I am also good at taking calls and emailing. I email people accordingly, for example, if I know I need time off or can make something I let them know in advance instead of waiting till the last minute. I’m good at communicating my opinions and what I think could be done instead of standing back and not saying anything. I am also good at teamwork. I have completed many team projects and always get good feedback from my peers. I also have led field research projects with teams.
