Reflection
This was a group project assigned as a guide to a professional field. We are all Communication Sciences and Disorders majors, so we decided to cover three of the most popular settings for speech pathologists. The report was developed to provide information about the different fields to recent graduates of a CSDS master’s program. Many components were pivotal in the success of this assignment, it was lengthy and the formatting requirements were extremely specific. It was my first time writing a letter of authorization, a letter of transmittal, and table of contents. I was grateful for the opportunity to incorporate artistic skill and design principles in creating the logo. In regards to the course learning outcomes, the 8 Cs and the rhetorical appeals were heavily utilized. One of the first sentences, “the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics expects a 25% increase of Speech Pathologists in the next ten years”, serves as an example of logos, using logic as an appeal. Specific numbers and facts are effective in persuasion. Since this was a professional report, utilization of the 8 Cs were necessary. The purpose of the report was to provide info to graduates to influence their decision making process. In order to communicate successfully, clarity was especially necessary. I wrote the section about working in a school. I made sure to include a plethora of detail, delving into all of the different strategies used and individuals worked with. This project served to incorporate and solidify what we had learned throughout the course.
