ANNUAL FARMVILLE EVENTS
*Crute Stage: Check out Crute Stage on the corner of North Main and Fourth Street. Stars Under the Stars is the summer movie festival held at Crute Stage. It starts in June and goes through August on the 2nd Friday of the month.
*Fireworks After Dark: Farmville’s 4th of July celebration is held every year at the Farmville Regional Airport.
*The Heart of Virginia Festival: This festival occurs every May and there are car shows, 5k races, art shows, and lots of food to eat!
ARTS AND CULTURE
Central Virginia Regional Library: Located on the banks of Wilck’s Lake, the Farmville branch has book and DVD collections and regular events for adults, children, and families. In the summer there is a movie at 2:00 on Fridays.
Longwood Center for the Visual Arts: Featuring three gallery spaces for rotating art exhibitions and a permanent African art collection, the LCVA also offers regular programs for families and children. The free family workshops occur throughout the year for special occasions such as Dia de Los Muertos and Valentine’s Day. Through the campus loan program, faculty can display selected artwork in their offices. Information on the program is sent via email.
Moton Museum: Moton Museum is the former Robert Russa Moton High School. Now it’s a National Historic Landmark for the school’s involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. The Moton Museum documents the Civil Rights Movement in Prince Edward County and the Griffin v. Prince Edward Supreme Court case.
Sunchase Cinema 8: Farmville’s first-run movie theater has adult tickets for $9 and children’s (ages 3-12) tickets for $6. Take the whole family to the Summer Kids Movie Series.
Waterworks Players: This community theater performs about three shows a year, including a must-see pantomime each December. A number of Longwood faculty and staff are regular participants!
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Adventure Park at Sandy River Retreat: With zip lines and a high ropes course, there is a lot of aerial fun to be had at the adventure park, and it’s just a few miles outside of Farmville. Season passes are available, or you can look into hosting a party or team-building event.
Farmville Blueway: A recent addition to Farmville, the Blueway features three different routes through Wilck’s Lake, Buffalo Creek, and the Appomattox River. Paddling times range from about 1 to 3 hours, depending on the chosen route.
Farmville Municipal Golf Course: Next to the Farmville Regional Airport is a public 9 hole course. There is also a practice facility with a driving range, a putting green, and a pool.
High Bridge Trail State Park: 31 miles long and level, the trail is multi-use (walking, biking, and horseback riding). The centerpiece is the High Bridge which stretches over 2,400 feet. This state park is located just a short drive from downtown and is one of several state parks within an hour of Farmville!
The Wilck’s Lake Park: Highlights include a playground, skate park, and walking trail. You can also rent Wilck’s Lake Island for events.
Twin Lakes State Park: A thirty-minute drive from Farmville, Twin Lakes State Park offers many outdoor activities. There are campground sites and cabins available to rent. While there you can swim or boat at the lake, picnic, or fish. Trails are available for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.
RECREATION
Southside Virginia Family YMCA: There are programs for every age at the YMCA, including swim lessons, water aerobics, swim team, summer camps, kids night out, dance, and karate.
