For many years I considered becoming a math teacher. I always knew that teaching was my calling and that it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was not until my sophomore year of high school that I found out I wanted to teach physical education. My 10th grade physical education teacher was Mrs. Debbie Burgess (pictured above). Mrs. Burgess showed me what it really took to become a great teacher and how big of an impact you can make on someone’s life in the field of education. When I received my acceptance letter to Longwood University I told Mrs. Burgess that I wanted to be a physical education teacher just like her. Sadly, before I even arrived at Longwood Mrs. Burgess passed away after losing a battle to cancer. When the days get tough and I think that maybe physical education is not my calling, I remember Mrs. Burgess and why I continue to do what I love so much.
