As I enter the field of social work and reflect on the knowledge and skills I have gained over the past 4 years, I would like to continue to grow my career path with early intervention services. During my senior internship at The Infant and Toddler Connection of the Heartland, I have learned about the importance of early intervention services. Throughout my internship I’ve learned the process of early intervention and the affects it has on children and families. The services provided within early intervention services help infant and toddlers birth to three years old experiencing developmental delays, atypical development, and health diagnosis. Working at my internship taught me how crucial early intervention services can be to one’s development and helping meet all developmental milestones by improving areas of concern. The importance of human relationships also plays a significant role in early intervention because service coordinators work with therapist, Elementary schools, and head start programs to provide children and families with resources to continue their growth. Once a child ages out of services they can transition to school services to help continue their developmental needs.
I believe I would be a good fit for this position because of my background working with children and families from babysitting, being a camp counselor, and dance teacher. In addition to this experience, I have gained new skills and knowledge during my senior internship. I believe my understanding of early intervention services, and my willingness to grow and improve as a professional by providing support to children and families is why I am passionate about working with early intervention services.
