Best practices for survey research include defining the research question, designing an
impartial and well-structured survey. The research question is does family fun time activities affect family involvement? The survey question that will be used to operationalize the dependent variable is, “On a scale from 0-10 how engaged was your family during the activity.” With the answers being on a scale from 0, not at all, to 10, a great amount. The survey question that will be used to operationalize the independent variable is, “How did these activities benefit your child?” The possible answers being, “A. Socially, B. Educationally, C. Mentally, D. Emotionally, and E. Other.” These are well-written questions because they follow the general questionnaire format, the questions are uncluttered, they are both short questions, neither of the questions have negative items within them, and they avoid biased items and terminology.
